Select P0016 - 32mm

$ 290 USD
Select P0016 features a movement that comes from an interesting time in not only watch history, but also legal history in the United States. Manufactured in 1889 by the Deuber-Hampden Watch Company, this movement represents a time in history when antitrust laws in the United States were just coming into prominence in the legal field. In 1886, only a mere three years prior to the manufacturing of this watch movement, John C. Deuber, the founder of the Deuber Watch Case Company that built nearly all the watch cases for Hampden at the time, purchased a controlling interest in Hampden Watch Company. As aforementioned, antitrust laws were at the forefront of law in the United States, so Deuber's purchase resulted in watch case manufacturers staging a boycott against Deuber and Hampden. In 1888, one year before this movement was made, Deuber decided to fully buy out Hampden, creating the Deuber-Hampden Watch Company which employed 10% of Canton, Ohio's population at the time.  Then in 1890, only one year after this movement was made, US President Benjamin Harrison signed The Sherman Act into law, which stands as the landmark antitrust federal statue in the US.
